Get the free desktop app

For: all plans

Explaindio 5 AI also comes as an optional desktop app. You don't need it: everything in Explaindio 5 AI works in your web browser. The desktop app is an extra for those who want it. It opens the full Explaindio editor in its own app window, with the same projects, templates and AI, and rendering on your own computer is free. It needs an internet connection, because your projects live in your account.

Works on: Windows 10 or later (64-bit) · macOS 14 Sonoma or later · Linux (64-bit)

Set it up

  1. Install the app. Download it for your computer from https://explaindiolocal.com/w_desktop/ and open it.
  2. Make a desktop key. In Explaindio, open Settings. Under Desktop App, click + Generate new key, give it a name like "My laptop", and click Generate. Then click Copy. The key is shown only once.
  3. Connect. In the desktop app, paste the key and click Connect.

Render for free

Open a scene and click Render on this device · free.

The Render queue shows each render as it goes. When it says Done, click Show in folder.

Rendering on your own computer is free. Making new parts, like a voice-over or the talking presenter, uses credits as usual.

Where your videos go: at first, your Downloads folder, in a folder called explaindio-renders. To save somewhere else, open the Explaindio menu and click Choose render folder….

Updates

On Windows and Mac, when a new version is out, the app shows "A new version of Explaindio 5 AI is ready: download it" with an Open download page button. Download and install the new version yourself; your projects stay in your account. On Linux, the app updates itself.

If something doesn't work

  • The app says your key doesn't work. Make a new key in Settings and connect again. One key works on one computer. You can revoke an old key there too.
  • No internet connection. Connect to the internet to sign in, edit or start a render. Videos you've already made still play.
  • A render didn't save to your account. Click Upload again once you're connected again.
